Cloudview for Hootsuite allows you to easily access your files on Google Drive, Dropbox and Box in a Hootsuite stream, inside Hootsuite's publisher, or inside Hootsuite's composer. View, search, upload and attach files to outgoing messages, all in Hootsuite.
NOTE: The images in this guide are from the Google Drive version, however the Dropbox and Box versions function similarly.
1. Adding one of the apps.
Open the Hootsuite app directory and install one of the Cloudview apps.
Once you have installed an app, you can access it from within the Hootsuite publisher, or, you can add a stream to your Hootsuite dashboard by clicking the Add Stream button in your dashboard:
Next, click Apps, and finally select the app you want to add to a stream:
2. Authorize the app.
The first time you add a Cloudview stream, or, open it in the Hootsuite publisher, you will be asked to connect with Google Drive/Dropbox/Box and authenticate:
Click the Connect button, and a new tab will open in your browser taking you to Google Drive, Dropbox or Box to authenticate.
Once you have authorized access to your files, you will be returned to the Hootsuite publisher or Hootsuite stream, and the root directory of your files will be displayed:
3. Hootsuite Publisher
The Hootsuite Publisher version of the app allows you to browse your photos and videos, search for specific media and attach media to outgoing messages.
In the app's menubar, there are a variety of options.
Clicking the settings Icon will allow you to disconnect the current cloud file account, and then reconnect with a different one:
Clicking the Sort-by menu, allows you to choose the order in which you want to view your files:
Clicking the search box and entering text will search your cloud files for files that match the text you entered:
Once you've found the file you're looking for, select it from the dropdown menu, and it will be displayed in stream:
Interacting with files
Clicking on the image will display a popup with an enlarged version of the image. At the bottom, there are 3 options for dealing with files:
- Attach & Compose
Attach & Compose
Clicking the Attach & Compose icon will select the current media, and add it to the Social Network compose box, allowing you to share the media with your social network posts.
Clicking the Download icon will download the current media to your computer.
Clicking the Properties icon will display the properties for the current media:
From the Properties panel, you can Attach and Download the image, however you may also open the file on Google Drive/Dropbox/Box by clicking the icon to the right of the file name.
5. Hootsuite streams
In addition to being able to access your files from within Hootsuite's publisher, you can also access them from a stream. Click Add stream to add a Cloudview stream to your dashboard.
In the app stream's menubar, there are four options:
- Create a folder
- Upload a file
- Search for a file
Clicking the Create a folder icon allows you to create a new folder in the current directory
Clicking the Upload to this folder icon allows you to upload a new file to the current directory
Search for a file will display all files that meet your search criteria.
From the Settings menu you can disconnect the current account, and then connect with a new one.
Just below the app's menu bar, is the folder navigation strip. Clicking on a folder will take you to that folder, and display all of the files/folders contained in it.
Clicking the Share link on Hootsuite icon will obtain a link that you can share, and add it to the network compose box.
Clicking the Download icon will download the file to your computer.
If the file is an image, clicking the Attach icon will attach it to the network compose box, and you may select it to include in outgoing social media messages.
If a preview of the file is available, clicking the file name will show it.
Clicking the Date will open the file in Google Drive/Dropbox/Box.
6. Composer Media Library
Clicking on the Composer button in Hootsuite will open up the Hootsuite composer:
To display the Media Library, first click Open Media Library. With the Media Library now open, click on the file source menu, find the source you want to use, and then finally click the Install link to install the source. Next, you will be asked to authorize the app with Google Drive/Dropbox/Box.
Once you have authorized the app, your files will be displayed:
Clicking a folder will open the folder and display media contained in the folder. Clicking an image will add it to the current post you are creating.
Entering text into the search box will search and display media that matches the keywords you have entered.
